There are beaches on Oahu's North Shore that are challenging even for surfing pros. Hale'iwa Beach on the North Shore is not one of them. The beach is a popular hangout for North Shore residents and is suitable for everyone to surf. The waves are ideal for both beginners and advanced. Those with little experience stay close to shore and try to catch the smaller waves, while pros ride the powerful waves in the open ocean further away from the shore. In Hale'iwa Beach Park there is the Kalili Surf Center, where kids from all over the island can learn how to surf and those who want to try it out can rent equipment and go canoeing in the ocean. To some visitors, this building will seem strangely familiar, as if they had been there before. Fans of the Baywatch Hawaii series find themselves here at the filming location or, more precisely, the series' base of operations.

There is a popular dive spot off the coast at Hale'iwa Beach in Hawaii. Those who have their diving license could, for example, dive into Hale'iwa Trench. The beach offers spectacular views of the Waianae Mountains as well as Kaena Point and is a great place to get away and enjoy a few hours of sun. There are many rocks and stones on the seabed which make swimming a dangerous affair, especially with strong currents. Visitors who want to swim here should always pay attention to the flags of the lifeguards or ask the beach attendant directly beforehand what the current conditions are.

In addition to countless water activities, the spacious Beach Park offers visitors the opportunity to use the provided picnic tables under the shady trees to eat treats.

Lifeguards and beach attendants are on site daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to monitor the activity on the beach and intervene if needed.

Directions and parking:

Unfortunately, reaching the beach by bus is not that easy. From Waikiki, a single trip takes two to three hours and requires several transfers.

The drive by car is much easier and can be done from Waikiki in about 45 minutes. To get there, take the H1 and then the H2 in the direction of the North Shore until you see signs for Hale'iwa and, after the exit, Hale'iwa Beach. A large parking lot is available to visitors at the beach park, which can be used free of charge.
