At Kanaha Beach, located right by the Kahului Airport you will certainly hardly meet tourists. This is a very popular beach among locals. It is especially known for water sports activities such as kite surfing and windsurfing, as there is usually a strong wind blowing. People also like to fish, play volleyball and barbecue here. The local canoe clubs also have their base here. Even camping (with a permit) is possible at this beach.
At this two-mile sandy beach overlooking Maui's green mountain range to the west, you'll find the greatest abundance of activities carried out. It's mostly families here who like to use the picnic areas for barbecues.
