Pokai Beach is located between the port of Wai'anae and Kane'ilio Point, a peninsula on which Ku'ilioloa Heiau, an ancient Hawaiian temple complex is located. The bay is named after Chief Pokai who is said to have brought the first coconut palm to Hawaii.
This beach is characterized by its year-round calm waters, as the waves are kept away by a stone wall. For this reason, the beach is popular, especially among local families with children but rather less visited by tourists.
The southern end is more suitable for swimming and snorkelling, the northern end is also great for surfing (beginner level). Pokai Beach is also lovely for kayaking or standup paddling. Rental is available on site.
The toilets are less attractive and less clean; it would be better to use the toilets of the adjacent Beach House Restaurant .
