On Oahu's west coast, Makaha Beach is one of the most popular, yet not crowded beaches with great waves for surfing, clear water, an impressive underwater world and the gigantic green mountains in the background.
In the summer months, the sea can also be calmer, so the offshore reef (at the northern end, near the hotel) is a good place to snorkel and explore the underwater world. For all swimmers, the best access to the water is in the middle of the beach, as there is no reef there.
With a little luck, you can meet dolphins at this beach, which are usually more likely to be observed in the morning or evening. Some guests have also already observed sea lions but this encounter is rare.
