Richardson Ocean Park - Beschreibung

If you want to snorkel on the east coast of Big Island, you should definitely stop here. Lined by black sand and the island's signature black lava rock, the park's numerous tide pools offer a true natural playground for young and old alike.

The underwater world of the reef is varied and colorful; you are sure to encounter the popular Honu,, the green sea turtles that also like to come ashore to feed and sunbathe.

For lounging and picnicking there is an extensive green area with picnic tables and also trees that provide shade.

Further out, the sea offers good surfing conditions for experienced surfers.

What we say

Tommy
During the week a great spot to snorkel and linger, but on weekends very crowded. Partly the pools are also fed by fresh water, which can be refreshingly cool in contrast to the sea water.
Our checklist & tips:
  • Water shoes advantageous
  • Family friendly
  • Much visited on weekends even by locals
  • Beautiful green area with sufficient shade
