Carlsmith Beach Park - Beschreibung

At a distance of about 5 km from Hilo airport, you would hardly expect such a wonderful place. The bathing spot is crisscrossed by lava rocks and forms a dreamlike backdrop for snorkelling and relaxing. The sea here shows itself in a bright green-blue; with the lush green of the coconut palms and tropical trees, the colour play of this maritime landscape seems almost picturesque.

This beach park is more of a bathing bay with tide pools, as there are mostly rocks and green areas, but hardly any sand. Access to the water is safe and convenient with stairs and handrails. It is a great place to dive into Hawaii's colourful underwater world.

Due to the natural rock walls, the waves are blocked off and allow safe and relaxed swimming and snorkelling even for smaller children.

The spot is also popular with green sea turtles. They can be observed both underwater and on the rocks, on which they like to lie down to sunbathe.

Parking is possible free of charge on the street or at a gravel parking lot about 50-100 meters away.

What we say

Tommy
The blue-green lagoon of Carlsmith Beach Park is also a popular destination among locals, especially for families. However, due to the large space, it is not too crowded here.
Our checklist & tips:
  • Safe snorkelling even for the little kids
  • Turtles guaranteed
  • Free parking on the street
  • Bring camping chairs
  • Possibly wear bathing shoes
  • Stop at the Seaside Restaurant at Lokowaka Pond
